it hurts to build

T
oday I dug deep into my new toolbox and came out armed with a screwdriver. Then I proceeded to construct a cupboard we bought from Mio. It was a lot more complicated than I thought. There were about a million pieces (42) not counting endless screws and plugs. I thought it would take me an hour or so. I emerged from the room, drenched in sweat and aching all over about 5 hours later.

Then I put a desk together, also from Mio. It was slightly easier, mainly due to a smaller number of parts.

Then I rushed to the tunnelbana station to meet up with my fiancé. She was on the train and we went to buy paint. Instead we bought a few things from IKEA and had dinner there. I had... meatballs, of course.

Maybe we'll buy paints tomorrow. If all the stores aren't closed for New Years... We need to paint one wall, because we don't like the color so much. Then we will paint another wall into a color we like better.

So what are your plans for the new year?

should i avoid windows vista and if so, how?

A
fter the move (We just moved to a new place, in case I've forgotten to tell you. Yes, we're in Poland now, but we did get to spend one night in our new home before we left.) I'm doing a lot of things to... streamline our living. One of these things will be switching to a laptop instead of my old bulky unit. I'll have to shell out a lot to get the power I need for my music (Marta frequently calls me Ross when I play with my midi keyboard) and other stuff (like games...).

One major problem I have is that all new laptops I can find, because I'm not switching to Apple, have Windows Vista installed. I know it's Microsofts new baby, but does it have to be standard? Every time I've encountered that particular operating system, it's caused more problems than any other I've used, with the possible exception of Windows 98 -which wanted you to reboot every time you reset the clock, saved a file or yawned. Reading this didn't help either. And I'd feel better about this guy if it didn't seem like he had a hand in Gates' pocket as he was writing.

Does anyone out there have any tips for me? Is Windows Vista really that bad? I mean, did Service pack 1 help with any of the problems? Or do I have to get XP with Service pack 3 installed before I use my new laptop?

fish, fish, fish, fish, fish, fish and a duck

S
pending Christmas in Bydgoszcz is once again turning out a lot like spending Christmas on Gotland. For days and days, I am never hungry. I constantly find myself being offered, and accepting, something to eat. It's tangerines, fish, cake, fish, chocolate, tangerines, fish, sandwiches and fish. Also, we had duck today for lunch. We've also had some pierogi with barszcz. It's all tasty, to be sure, but whenever I can, I try to get some good ol' cornflakes and milk down the hatch.

I did have come carp this year, but I have sadly yet to experience the Polish tradition of keeping the poor thing in the bathtub prior to slaughter on the morning of December 24th. Oh, well! There will be more Christmases in this country for me, I'm sure.

bydgoszcz christmas

O
nce again, I spend Christmas in Poland, in Bydgoszcz, Marta's home town. In all honesty, the best thing about this place is that I get to relax from whatever was on my mind before, because here, there's really nothing I can do about anything.

Anyway, I want to wish you all the merriest of Christmases! I'll probably blog more later on today and the following days, but for now, those are my wishes.

Now for the fish.

dear fedex...

Next time some company I order stuff from decides to ship it by you guys at FedEx, could you please just hand the package to the guys at the post office and let them deliver it? They sure fuck up a lot, but they never make you wait at home all day when they've said they'll deliver like you do. And then when you fuck up, because you always do too, it just makes it so much worse.

A big Christmas FUCK YOU from me to all of you guys at FedEx!

/Linus

PS.How the fuck is it possible that you call me one day and then lose one digit in my number the next?

postkodslotteriet

D
e skickar otroliga mängder direktreklam. Jag vill få detta att upphöra. Jag skrev ett mail till dem:

"Hej!

Tack."

Jag undrar om det kommer att fungera.

video
i can't believe

M
arta and I rented the X-files movie I Want To Believe this weekend. It wasn't all that great. But what really bugs me is something I've actually noticed before:

How come they put guns in some characters' hands on movie posters when the characters don't even hold a gun in the movie? In this one, Mulder is no longer with the FBI. He doesn't carry a gun himself, nor does he pick up anyone else's gun during the entire movie. Yet the poster look slike this:

Maybe it's a Swedish thing? The Swedish cover of The Good Sheperd, featuring Matt Damon, looks like this:

Guess whether Matt's character is ever seen holding a gun in this movie... He doesn't. I find this disturbing on many levels.
